I just realized that there's an amazing book on calculus which people can use to learn it. Some have probably heard it from the YT channel Mathologer. It's out there on the web, for FREE.

for the sixth time this period, a folded sheet of notebook paper whizzes through the air and smacks into your body. 

the culprit? same as the first five times. 

caleb was trying to master his evol by the start of junior year, dead set on perfecting it before he drowned in assignments, sports, and college prep. practicing at home wasn’t enough, he’d said, so he’d taken to bending gravity at school now, too. 

it was a noble effort—he was the most determined teenage boy you’d ever seen. but unfortunately for you, that determination had him floating notes over to you in class every day.

today’s was a paper airplane that always flew just within your reach, pricking your neck or your arm or the back of your skull. but before you could grab it, he summoned it back to him like a boomerang. apparently, just within your reach wasn’t good enough. his aim had to be perfect, and his target was your desk.

“stop it,” you hiss the moment your math teacher turns her back. “this is why you always have to help me with my homework. you’re distracting me.”

wide, unapologetic eyes gleaming in delight, caleb shrugs. with an innocent grin, he gestures for you to turn back around so he can try again. 

but before you get the chance, an accusatory drawl stops you in your tracks.

“is there a problem here?”

“no ma’am,” caleb answers sweetly while you freeze in your seat, feeling your cheeks flame with embarrassment. “she was just makin’ sure i could see the screen over her head. it’s not as small as it used to be, you know,” he quips, earning a chorus of giggles from your classmates.

your teacher sighs in exasperation. “alright then, mr. xia. but don’t let it happen again, you two. or else i’ll have to separate you.”

shooting him one last exasperated glare, you grumble a defeated “yes ma’am” and turn your head to face the front. and for a while, class proceeds as usual—no notes, no disturbances, just complex equations on the screen ahead.

until a thin white object makes a smooth landing on your desktop, followed by a whispered “yes!” from behind you. jumping at the sudden movement, you scramble to unfold the airplane before your hawk-eyed teacher sets her sights on you again. 

and when you read the simple message scribbled on it, your heart swells despite the twitch in your eye.

There is a theory that the way children play serves as a means to simulate and prepare them for the tasks they'll take on as adults. So for all the narrative weight both Jinx and the story give the boxing machine at the arcade it would never have prepared her or the kids to take on Piltover.

What are the two things that Piltovans excel at over their Zaunite counterparts to keep the hierarchy? Weapons and technological development.

When you look at the way Piltovans invest in their children, they don't prioritize hand to hand/melee combat training. Piltovans focus on giving their children experiences in handling firearms, a pursuit that is both leisure sport for the wealthy and a key offense against dissenting Zaunites.

And from the show notes even Jayce, whose family occupies the upper middle class, was sent on educational excursions across Runeterra to explore the world and learn what it had to offer. Without Jayce's education abroad he would never have been inspired to pursue the concept hextech.

It's no wonder that the two figures that are set to be Piltover's biggest threats from Zaun are Jinx and Viktor, becasue they engaged in the same kinds of games and activities as their Piltovan counterparts.

Jinx didn't have an entire forest preserved to help her practice her sharpshooting like the high houses of Piltover, but she did excel in the few games at The Rift (the arcade) that built on her talents. She's the only Zaunite thus far who's long distance offensive is a strong counter to Piltover's forces.

Viktor couldn't travel the world like Jayce did, but for better or worse he managed to stumble into an opportunity to get real opportunity in research not offered to his peers through Singed. It was through that experience that Viktor knew to turn to Singed when he was at the end of his rope, and the consequences of that will be fully realized in season 2.

Ironically, the kind of skill the boxing game champions is only good for keeping other Zaunites in line. Vander's days of fighting Piltover were way behind him when we first met him, and Vi spends season 1 primarily fighting other Zaunites. It's no surprise the Zaunites who embody the old ideal of strength in Zaun that the game portrays, Vi and Vander, are largely at the mercy of Piltover and end up collaborating with them to avoid further harm.

Zaun's future as an independent city-state couldn't happen if they stuck to their old ideals. The people who stand a chance against Piltover are the ones that not only succeed but excel at playing Piltover's games against them.

Gale Math

So, we all know that in the epilogue, Gale tells Tav:

I love you.

And if you look at the datamined dialog files and read the dev notes, you’ll see this:

Devnote: With the warmth of having said this a thousand times before.

So, taking that statement as a FACT (which, you know, I’m certain it was intended to be…) we now have a solid numerical value to start with: 1000.

Next, we know that per the narrator at the epilogue start, it’s been 6 months since the defeat of the netherbrain; therefore it’s been 6 months since Gale and Tav got engaged/agreed to live together. We’re going to conclude that they have spent every day together since then.

6 months = 182.5 days

Now, assuming that Gale says ‘I love you’ to Tav on a relatively similar schedule each day (ex: when they first wake up, when Gale heads out to Blackstaff Academy, etc. etc.) we can make an equation:

1000 declarations of love divided by 182.5 days = the amount of times Gale tells Tav he loves them every single day.

We solve the equation and get 5.47945205

We round that down, and voila! We now have flawless mathematical proof that

Gale says ‘I love you’ to Tav an average of 5 times every single day

assuming you're an "og" swiftie or sm, stans from which era would you consider as new swifties? also, i saw a lot of people on tumblr/twitter saying that new swifties don't deserve rep tv and the ones who were not around in 2017 should stay away from it etc. and just wanted to know, do you feel the same? because i feel like, as swifties who were simply too young to truly be around in 2016-2018 era just get pretty easily dismissed and very often.

Hi anon! I'm actually not an "OG" swiftie on social media, or even in the fandom, so I'm the wrong person to ask. I've listened to Taylor's music since Debut, would consider myself a fan from about 1989, and hardcore Swiftie from probably around Lover or folklore. And only joined the tumblr side of the fandom around Midnights/Eras. So I'm likely considered a new fan as well despite being familiar with her from the start.

I think the frustration longtime fans feel is that newer fans (not necessarily you anon) are clamouring for Rep TV but completely misunderstanding what the era was really like or about. There's a faction of fans who want Rep TV because they want the easter eggs and the "bad bitch" vibe and want to fuel their tiktok conspiracy theories. When the reality was: it was not a "bad bitch" era. Taylor was in recovery from several things, she was finding her footing personally, professionally and in the public eye, and she was rebuilding her life after an extremely traumatic experience (that almost cost her everything if you catch my drift).

Fans who were around then are extremely protective of the original rep era for that reason, because the fallout from the "cancellation" cannot be underscored enough. Like, I wouldn't consider myself in the fandom at all at that point, but even I was extremely aware of what was going on. Taylor was absolutely pilloried everywhere. She was persona non grata during snakegate. It was relentless. So I think the fans who were around then take offence to people being like "fuck yeah Taylor is going to own all these assholes!" like when the chronically online think she's embracing being targeted by the president or the right wing zealots or Blake's legal case. The reality was that it was a very vulnerable time for Taylor, and Rep is a very vulnerable album because despite the imagery of it being this badass revenge album, it's actually about her opening herself up to love when she felt like the world hated her. So the commodification of Rep by the newer fans who completely ignore that and just want all the "bad bitch" songs I think rubs people the wrong way and feel like it treats Taylor like a sim, when she is a person who went through a life-changing experience that set her on a very difficult and painful path for years.

I do feel for younger fans who are experiencing all of this for the first time, because I do think some corners of the fandom are very prickly and dismissive. And as someone who is no longer young, but still newer to the full fandom experience, I do empathize with that because I have felt shades of that myself. I think all newer fans are welcome, but I think newer fans also have a bit of a "duty" to understand what Taylor is about and what she's experienced. It's great if you are excited for Rep TV to experience a new album launch! I've loved being around for the re-releases since 2021! But I think it's also understanding that Taylor isn't Easter egging her life, and the TikTokification of discourse has made it impossible for many fans to enjoy any of it because of the constant search of conspiracies and/or misunderstanding Taylor's music or her life experiences.

My rule of thumb is to just stay away from Twitter fandom in particular, but also tiktok and reddit lol. It's made for rage bait. Enjoy what you want, and have fun learning about this stuff all over again. :)
